foot operated disc sanderjust muscle strength

How can a disc sander be powered only by muscle power?
No electricity, only muscle.
The guiding theme of this project is: “Away from sockets and batteries, back to muscle power and skilful mechanisms.” The topic? A disc sander!
Target group
The disc sander is designed for remote locations without electricity, but also for people who rarely use their appliance and therefore do not need an electrical device.

How is it driven?
Can’t work and crank at the same time
With a hand crank, you have the problem of having only one hand to work with, and it feels a bit like rubbing your tummy and tapping your head at the same time.
Solution
foot operated

Rotation & flywheel
A certain rotational speed is required in conjunction with flywheel mass so that enough force is available to machine the workpiece. However, as the initial start-up would then be too difficult, these centrifugal weights make this easier and provide the necessary centrifugal mass from a certain rotation onwards.

Mock up

One sheet of steel
The entire base plate performs several tasks and can be made from just one sheet of steel using the bending process.

Grind!
